Sound problems can be caused by the Direct TV TIVO?? I thought it was the TV's problem.?

How does the Direct TV box prevent sound from coming through to the TV? Our sound is coming and going, and they have to send us a new box. I thought sound came from the television set?????

It will replace a TIVO we have had for probably 6 years, and I don't like the way the new Direct TV TIVO's are set up. I am feeling really sorry for myself right now!!!

Audio problems are caused by 1 of 3 things typically: The TV, the audio cable(s), or the Tivo (in this case).  Heres a fast easy way to tell if the issue is actually with the Tivo: Unplug the cables that connect the Tivo to your TV and plug them into another device (like a dvd player or VCR).  Leave the end on the tv there.  Play a dvd or vhs tape.  If the audio problem happens with that device also...the problem is likely not the Tivo.  If the problem happens with the newly tried device, try a new cable (the red,white and yellow audio/video cables work best with standard definition TVs).  Be sure to put your tv on the right input for the cable you use!  If you try a new cable, and the problem still happens, then the issue would likely be your tv set itself.  Try the new cable on the other device and the Tivo both.  If still a problem, if you have another tv you can try hooking up, hook it up to the Tivo and see if it works.  If the Tivo audio is still acting weird, you need the replacement tivo and may need a new tv set also.  If the Tivo works, get yourself a new tv set and when the replacement Tivo shows up from Directv, refuse the shipment (it will be sent back to Directv).  You dont need to let DTV know you did it.  If Fedex just leaves the Tivo at your door, do not open the box, just call Fedex and schedule for them to come pick it up or drop it off at a Fedex drop location.  If a non-return fee shows up on your bill, dont worry....it will be reversed as long as you sent the replacement Tivo back.
