Question:

Sound proofing floorboards cheaply?

My poor neighbours downstairs hear most of the goings-on in my flat as it's really a house divided up, with long floorboards throughout and no carpet anywhere!

I have a few rugs down and am careful to pad about in socks or slippers only, but would carpet tiles or more rugs be the answer (which is best?) ? I wonder if the carpet tiles are better than big rugs as sound doesn't travel as well in small areas, i.e. they're divided up?

Or is there some other sort of rubber tile or alternative that's inexpensive?

(I don't want to spend much money as it's just a rented flat, and also it can't therefore be something permanent)

  1. If the flats just rented i would go for the option of more rugs.  If you use carpet tiles , your gonna have to glue them down, which is gonna ruin the wooden floor when you try and get them back up.
