Sound proofing?

Could anyone give me some good idea's on sounding proofing my walls. I can hear everything from next door.

  1. You can checkout the Gyproc Acoustic plasterboard. Maybe get the wall dot and dabbed and skimmed off ?


  2. It sounds like you live in an apartment or something, and can't open up the walls?  If you could, you could installed solid foam insulation, but if you can't, try hanging tapestries on the walls.  That will help a little.

    If you plan to live there a long time and are real serious about this, you could build a second interior wall over the wall in question, frame it in, insulation with solid insulation, cover over.  2 x 3's would be thick enough and wouldn't take up too much space from your room.  Use screws so you can disassemble when you move.  But that's the sort of project I'd do only if I planned to be there a couple years or more and the neighbors were real annoying.
