Question:

Sound system not performing as it should. Bass notes are cut off. Help!?

I have a sony home theatre audio system. It has been working fine until now. The deep bass lines seem to cut off when both the front main speakers are active. However, when i connect only one of the speakers, the clear and deep bass sounds come back to life. Of course, i want both speakers active, while delivering the deep bass notes, just like how it used to be. I have no idea what's wrong with the system.

Cables are fine & so are the speakers, as they do function properly when one is connected.

HELP!!

  1. Sounds like (excuse the pun).  Your speakers are out of phase.  Make sure you connect the red and the black or pos and neg the same way on each speaker.  If you have one switched it cancels out the lower frequencies when both speakers come on.  You need to make sure the connections are right for all surround speakers (every speaker).  You need to make sure front and back and cenyer all connected properly or the whole system can sound like c**p.  Once you get it right it will sound much better.  An easy way to check this is to balance left to right.  If the bass only comes on when the balance is to one side then your speakers are out of phase.  Do the same on the back with the balance,   Then fade front to back and check how that sounds.

  2. There may be something internally wrong with the amplifier or possibly a bad speaker. Or both.

Have you recently moved the speakers or disconnected the wires before this happened?

make sure the wires are connected properly. If the speakers are not connected + to + and - to - and they are crossed "out of phase" you will get diminished bass. They will work yes but the bass suffers the most. Especially if one is connected right and one isn't. Verify your wires are in good condition for all the speakers.

I know you have have stated your speakers and wires are ok. Have you checked each speakers one at a time on all channels? to verify all the speakers are good. If you have another system hook all your speakers up one at a time on another system to verify they are working properly.

Also while the system is on disconnect one speaker at a time. Does the sound of the connected speaker get better when you disconnect the left or the right. This may narrow down the problem to either the left or right side of the amp or speaker.

If your speakers are all ok, I would have to say it is an internal problem with your amplifier.

  3. sounds like canceling from out of phase on one speaker... double check

  4. i bet your amp is clipping /if you  turn down the volume somewhat ? does symtoms go away? get a bigger amp...
