I know for 1 cup of sour milk, you can substitute 1 cup cow's milk and 1 tbsp vinegar, let stand for 5 mins.

Can you do the same for soymilk, will it work?

  1. That's a really good question.  I am only guessing on the answer but I would think that recipes that call for milk are interchangeable with soy milk because they usually also have added fat (i.e. oil) in the recipe.  I suppose the only way to find out is to try it unless you get a better more knowledgeable answer than mine on this site.

  2. For each cup: Mix 1 cup of plain yogurt or sour cream mixed with ¼ cup (regular or) skim milk (use only 1 cup of the mixture)

    OR

Add 1 Tb of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of non-dairy milk and letting it sit for a few minutes.

    OR

1 tablespoon vinegar plus enough milk to equal 1 cup

  3. This is also called buttermilk. You can also use 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to 1 cup of milk or you can get low fat buttermilk at your local grocer. About the soy milk, I personally wouldn't try it.
