Sourabh Varma achieves an elevated position in Men’s Singles world ranking – Badminton news
India’s young and spirited Men’s Singles player, Sourabh Varma, has been delivering wonderful performance throughout 2011 and has achieved an elevated position in world rankings. He started the year with a position of 243 and ended it by reaching at 50th
spot.
The 20-year-old Sourabh played to his maximum potential and showed that he has what it takes to become a top class shuttler in the world of badminton. In the ending week of December, 2011, the young Indian cheered the home fans by playing tremendous badminton
and finished as runner up in the India Open Grand Prix Gold, which was held in Lucknow, India.
Sourabh always deliver wonderful performance when he plays in India as he also reached at the quarter-final stage of India Open Super Series, held in April, 2011. His elevated performance also shows his commitment and dedication with the game.
In the India Open GP Gold, he defeated higher ranked shuttlers including Hong Kong’s Yun Hu, Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon and Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto. He stunned all these shuttlers by playing remarkable badminton and stamped his supremacy in an emphatic
fashion.
However, Sourabh failed to beat Taufik Hidayat, who is former Olympic and World Champion, in the final of the tournament and lost to him after putting up good fight.
While talking about his performance and higher world ranking, Sourabh said that he is happy and satisfied with his form and also sets a higher target of reaching in the top 30 by the end of 2012.
He said, "This is my first year in international circuit and I am happy to break into the top 50. I had calculated during the Syed Modi tournament that I will hopefully make it to the top 50. Now my target is to reach the top 30 next year."
While talking about India’s national coach, Pullela Gopichand, the young shuttler said that the coach appreciated his performance and also motivated him for more hard work.
Sourabh said, "Gopi sir has told me that I have improved and I have to keep working hard. I have learned a lot from the mistakes that I committed during the tournament. With experience, I can only improve."
Sourabh has set high targets and is determined to break into the top-30 bracket before the end of current year.
