Sourabh Varma knocks down Sukamta Evert in Men’s Singles first round of Thailand Open GP Gold
India’s upcoming shuttler Sourabh Varma showed his elite class when he thrashed Indonesia’s Sukamta Evert in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, June 6, in Thailand.
The Indian shuttler, who has been positioned at number 12 in Men’s Singles main draw of Thailand Open, put up phenomenal show of top quality badminton and slaughtered his rival in a one-sided fashion by ending the contest in straight games.
Sourabh was impressive in his display of elevated skills in the court as he faced no considerable trouble from his rival and easily won the battle by working for just 36 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the Indonesian was had no answer to the perfect stroke placement and powerful smashes of his Indian opponent and bowed down to him without putting up even a meagre resistance.
In the opening set, both shuttlers played wonderful badminton in starting rallies but it was the Indian who showed his class by taking the control of rallies and managed to take a wonderful lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Sukamta tried to play fast and positive badminton but failed to put up strong show as his Indian rival was everywhere in the court.
Sourabh remained on track without dropping his speed at any stage in the game and remained successful in grabbing the opening set with in a one-sided fashion by a 21-11 score on the board.
In the following set, the Indonesian played slightly better badminton but again failed to match the perfection and speed of his Indian challenger.
In the meanwhile, Sourabh remained calm in the court as he showed no sign of confusion at any stage and established an impressive gap on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the Indian continued impressing the crowd by keeping the pace at the maximum level. He did not spare any chance for Sukamta to find his way back into the game.
The in-form Indian lived up to expectations and took the second game with a stunning margin of 21-12.
The higher ranked Sourabh won this battle in two games of 36 minutes with a 21-11 and 21-12 score on the board.
