India’s talented young player Sourabh Varma put up a gutsy show of top class badminton as he penetrated into Men’s Singles main round after beating Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in qualifying round of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Indonesia, on
Tuesday, June 12.
The higher ranked Sourabh, who is the third seeded shuttler in Men’s Singles qualifying round draw of Indonesia Open, played remarkable badminton and remained successful in beating his Malaysian opponent in a sensational manner.
The in-form Sourabh, who has been played tremendous badminton for the last couple of years, proved his worth in the arena and tamed Arif in straight sets by taking just 34 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the Malaysian failed to live up to expectations as he was quite helpless against the positive and aggressive play of his higher ranked Indian opponent and crashed out at the qualifying stage by losing the contest in straight sets.
In the opening game, both young shuttlers showed their brilliance in the court and pushed each other everywhere in the court. They played attacking badminton in the opening half of first game and remained close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the third seeded Sourabh played to maximum potential and easily took a reasonable lead against his Malaysian rival.
Sourabh remained on track as he did not lose his focus at any stage and wrapped up opening game with an impressive 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Arif played better game as he increased his speed at net and also remained positive in the court.
Until the mid-game break, both shuttlers were close on the score board as no one could establish a reasonable lead.
After the one-minute break, both shuttlers continued entertaining the crowd by progressing at the same speed.
However, it was Sourabh who controlled the pace in the ending points and won the set with a 21-19 margin on the score board.
The higher ranked Indian shuttler emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles qualifying round contest with a superb margin of 21-15 and 21-19.
