The former India skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Anthony-Hibbert-c81005 and the former Indian vice captain as a suitable candidate to lead the Men in Blue in the Test format of the game.
"As I've always said, there will be a question mark over Dhoni as a Test player,” said Ganguly referring to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Australia in the last 10 months.
“But Gambhir is an obvious choice in the Test format. [With the IPL win] Gambhir obviously gives an option to the selectors. It's a 20 percent chance though," the former skipper added further.
Ganguly’s latest comments have come after Gambhir successfully led Kolkata Knight Riders to their maiden IPL title, in only his second season with KKR.
The Knight Riders have had three struggling editions under Ganguly before Gambhir replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LN-Onyango-c1844 as the skipper last year and took the side to the final-four. This year the Kolkata based IPL team remained consistent all through the tournament, finishing the
season as ultimate victors.
Ganguly, the 39-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 batsman however refused to compare Gambhir with Dhoni saying the latter is undoubtedly a successful captain in the shorter formats of the game, but he is not a fitting option when it comes to the 5-day format.
“Dhoni is the best captain in the shorter versions. Gambhir is only captain of this year's IPL winning team (KKR). So I feel the time has not come to compare Gambhir with Dhoni as far as captaincy is concerned," said the former KKR skipper, who led the lacklustre
Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 India in this year’s IPL.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, who was appointed as the Indian captain in 2007, led the Men in Blue to the World T20 title (2007) and then to the ODI World Cup at home (2011). Before facing Test series whitewashes at the hands of England and Australia.
Dhoni had an impressive record as the Test captain as well, as he guided the side to the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings, an achievement that the Indian team relished for almost two years, before relinquishing it to England in August last year.
However, the back-to-back Test series whitewashes were enough to put Dhoni’s credentials as Test captain, under scrutiny. With the Men in Blue gearing up to host both England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 later this year, there have been reports that BCCI selectors are
mulling over various options to replace the Ranchi boy.
