Sourav Ganguly blames Craig Chappell for ruining his career – Cricket News Update
Former Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746, blames Craig Chappell for destroying his cricket career, accusing the former Indian coach of 'backroom politics' during his stint with the Men in Blue.
Ganguly’s comments came after Cricket Australia’s decision to remove Chappell as their national talent manager, following the review-report of Australia’s lacklustre performance during the last couple of years.
Appreciating Australia's step to sack Chappell, who is considered as the most controversial Indian coach ever, Ganguly said, "Now, people will know who was right and who was wrong (during their spat as captain and coach of the Indian team). He's such a big
cricketer... a big name... it's very unfortunate."
Recalling the sour memories of his experience with the former Aussie all-rounder, he added, "How many more times will such things (controversies) happen? He spoilt my career."
Chappell joined the party as India’s head coach after John Wright’s exit in 2005. While it was BCCI’s decision to hand over the reins to former Australian cricketer, Ganguly himself backed the idea and recommended Chappell for the position.
Yet, the love between Ganguly and Chappell did not last long, as the coach started suggesting Ganguly to quit leadership duties and focus on his batting performance, since the skipper was not at his best during that period.
The spat stirred up when Ganguly refused leaving the post and blamed Chappell for plotting against him. Despite the fact the senior members of the crew were doing a reasonable job, the coach wanted to include young legs in the side in a bid to build a strong
team for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2007.
As a result of a series of events in early 2006, Ganguly lost his position as India’s captain and later failed to secure his place in the national squad.
Chappell’s era came to an end following India’s dismal show in the 2007 mega event, as the coach decided not to go for extension after the heavy criticism on his coaching strategy.
Ganguly is now following the India-England npower Test series as a commentator.
