Sourav Ganguly impressed with Irfan Pathan’s comeback – Cricket News Update
India’s former skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, but maintains that the left-armer’s real test will be the 5-day format.
Pathan, 27, started his career in an emphatic manner in 2003 and was expected to be the leader of India’s bowling attack in future. The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Baroda-c769 however, failed to maintain consistency in his performance and lost his place in the national side.
An injury to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 and Thisara Perera,
the left-armer remained the top wicket-taker of the series with eight victims, including a five-wicket haul in the fifth ODI at Pallekele.
Pathan continued with the good form and picked up three scalps in the only T20 of the tour, getting the Man of the Match award.
In his article for the Hindustan Times, the former Indian captain praised the showings of Pathan as well as Ashok Dinda, the young fast bowler.
"It was once again http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashok-Dinda-c1098, who bowled beautifully in conditions where the ball swung throughout the game," he expressed.
The medium-fast bowler, who went through a massive slump in his bowling form in the recent years has been successful in impressing his former skipper, who thinks that Pathan is back to his normal self.
However, Ganguly is of the view that the longer version of the sport will help judge the true potential of the left-armer, if given an opportunity.
"The young Indian team has shown lot of good signs in these conditions. Irfan has gone from strength to strength in every game of this series." Ganguly expressed. "He bowled very well, it's not only the swing but also the zip is back and we will have to
wait and see, if and when his opportunity comes in Test cricket, whether he will be able to last five days both with the old and new ball."
