Sourav Ganguly joins Pune Warriors - Indian Premier League
Former Indian and Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Rider’s skipper, Sourav Ganguly, is all set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) fourth edition, for debutant Pune Warriors.
Pune have bought “Dada” for their remaining four matches of the ongoing League as a replacement for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians at the DY Patil stadium.
Director of Pune, Abhijit Sarkar, said that they were waiting for the medical reports of Ashish Nehra and meanwhile they were in talks with Ganguly. He added that following his report they requested Dada to join the team and he agreed to play for Pune. The director also asserted that they were in search of talent Ganguly possessed and had high hopes from him.
Ganguly earlier had captained the Kolkata Knight Riders for first three seasons. But during the 2011 auctions in January, Ganguly’s base price was $400,000, for which he remained unsold.
Dada though, did not appear in this edition but was hopeful for his comeback on massive demands by his fans. The left-arm batsman believed that he would become part of IPL because he kept himself fit even after going unsold in this season. The veteran has not played any game since last year's edition of the IPL. Playing 38 innings of the IPL during 2008-10, Ganguly scored 1031 runs at an average of 28.63 including his highest innings of 91 runs.
Ganguly had been the most privileged players of the IPL for his marvellous show in the Indian cricket team as well as in the IPL. Batting for the Pune would be a different experience for the players as well as Dada’s fans.
Pune, under the captaincy of Yuvraj Singh entered the IPL 2011, with a bang and enjoyed two consecutive victories over Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803. However, in the next matches, they lost their form completely and faced six defeats in a row.
With two wins out of their eight matches, Pune are languishing at the bottom of the points table with minimum four points.
Ganguly’s come back is expected to bring a positive change in the team’s performance.
