Sourav Ganguly, the captain of Pune Warriors, is not happy with his team’s showing against Deccan Chargers on Thursday, and feels that his spinners did not bowl well against Cameron White, when he was smashing them out of the park.
Deccan elected to bat first after winning the toss and posted a very competitive total of 177 runs on the board for the loss of only four wickets. Australia’s former T20 captain, White, played out of his skin and struck 78 runs off only 46 balls with the
help of half a dozen boundaries and five massive sixes.
Generally, the Warriors have done well in the tournament and their spinners have been the key behind their success. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Sharma-c83352 went for 39 runs each last night and failed to halt Deccan’s progress.
Ganguly has expressed that toss played an important role in the outcome of the match. Apart from poor performance of his spinners, the Pune skipper is not satisfied with the application of his batsmen either.
Former Indian captain said, “I would have still batted had I won the toss. We gave away 15-20 runs extra. We did not have partnerships. That was important. If you have to chase down 160-plus score, you need to get partnerships going. White played really
well. He played the spinners brilliantly.”
‘Dada’ further added that Pune had a grip on the match for most part of the first innings, before White came into his own and blasted the slow bowlers.
“He hit a few sixes. We had the game under control till the 13th-14th over when they had around 100 runs on the board. Then White went after Rahul Sharma in one over. We did bowl well in the last three overs. Didn't get hit for boundary,” he added.
After the loss against the Chargers, Pune has now slipped down to the sixth place on the points table. Going into the later stages of the tournament, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 need to be more consistent if they dream about qualifying for the play-off stage of the on-going
season. The two teams will face each other once again on the 1st of May, 2012, at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
