Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly’s wife, Dona Ganguly has said that she will be among lots of other Kolkatans who will support Pune Warriors in their match against Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders.
Ganguly is one of the most popular cricketers in Kolkata and his fans were furious when the left hander was not picked for Knight Riders’ squad this season.
However, the former Indian captain has been selected to play for Pune Warriors now.
The Warriors will be up against Knight Riders on May 19, 2011 and it will be an interesting encounter because Ganguly is expected to take part in this match against his former franchise.
Many cricket fans from Kolkata have shared that they will cheer for Warriors against their home city and Dona is planning to join them. She defended her husband and said that Ganguly should be allowed to play cricket as long as he is fit, regardless of his
age.
Dona said, "I will be among many fans in Kolkata who will be supporting Pune Warriors. I run a dance school and my students are performing in various cultural programs but does that mean I stop performing. If you can keep yourself fit and can perform, then
why not?"
Ganguly was also the first captain of the Knight Riders but a shocking performance from the franchise in first three seasons led to such drastic changes in the squad.
Dona added that she is happy that Pune gave her husband the opportunity to prove himself. She said that Ganguly has served Indian cricket and great cricketers like him should be allowed to play as long as they want to.
"It feels good that he has got an opportunity now. Players like him should be given freedom to decide when to quit. He should continue playing as long as he wishes," she added.
Ganguly has always loved challenges in his life and it would be no surprise if the left hander performs out of his skin against his previous franchise.
