Sourav Kothari downs Shabaaz Khan to win East Zone Invitational Snooker Championship – Snooker news
The World Pro Billiards quarter finalist Sourav Kothari defeated the number three seed Shabaaz Khan in a thrilling final match of the East Zone Invitational Snooker Championship on Sunday, June 12, 2011 and clinched the trophy.
This event was being held at the Billiards and Snooker Academy in Patia.
It was a cutthroat competition which took place between both West Bengal cueists, as they went neck-to-neck all the way. However, in the end it was Sourav who came on top to engrave his name on the trophy.
Sourav was very delighted on his win and told the media in the post-match presentation party that this win has boosted his confidence a lot. He especially mentioned Shyam Jagtiani.
In the meanwhile, Sourav, who is currently employed with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited, also admired his opponent Shabaaz Khan as he said Shabaaz played some wonderful shots during the match.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “I’m really thrilled to have won this tournament that featured many major players from the eastern part of the country. Winning against a senior like Shyam Jagtiani, especially, had given me confidence for the
final round. Of course, Shabaaz was in wonderful form and played some amazing shots.”
Shabaaz on the same note also shared his feelings. He stated his win against the top seed, Brijesh Damani, was an achievement for him but he lost the final match due to some bad shots. He also mentioned the likes of Subrat Das and Manish Jain, who participated
with him in the Q School event in World Snooker Academy in Sheffield in order to qualify for the professional circuit, as he reckons their presence in the tournament made the things wonderful.
“It was a good experience. Particularly winning against Brijesh Damani, who was the top seed, and with players like Manish Jain, Subrat Das and the rest was wonderful. I played a bad shot at the end and that cost me the final match. But I’m glad I participated
in this tournament,” said Shabaaz.
