Sourav Kothari leaves for Australia on June 21 to compete in tournaments – Snooker news
The World Pro Billiards quarter finalist Sourav Kothari, who recently outplayed Shabaaz Khan in a trilling final match to lift the inaugural BSA East Zone Snooker Championship, is leaving for Australia on June 21, 2011.
Sourav, who turned professional in 2007, says he is hopeful and will participate in a couple of tournaments including the Australian Open.
The Bengal Rowing Club’s player, Kothari, admitted there will be tough competitions ahead but on the same note, he said his win over Shabaaz Khan was a real confidence booster for him and hopefully he will do well now.
He stated, “This win has given me confidence for the battles ahead. I am expecting tough competition in Australia but I am ready for it.”
The world number 5 in Billiards, Kothari, also told the media about the major tournaments in which he is going to participate. He also was excited as he will get a chance to fight against the likes of Geet Sethi, Devendra Joshi and Dhruv Sitwala on the green
baize.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “There is one World Open Invitation Billiards tournament in Adelaide from June 24. The second one is the Australian Open from June 27, which will see top players, like Geet Sethi, Devendra Joshi, Dhruv Sitwala in
action. I am hopeful of a good show there.”
In the end, Kothari commented on the sport and said it is becoming extremely popular in his country. He said normally every player in his country plays 40 hours a year in different tournaments. He added that now when he has accepted the invitation, there
will be a bright future of the game in his country.
“We have to take the initiative. In Bangalore, 40 hours of cue sports in a year is part of the syllabus for a student. So, the game is becoming extremely popular. Here in Bengal we need something on those lines,” said Kothari, who works at the Oil & Natural
Gas Corporation Limited.
Let’s see if Sourav Kothari can really become a role model for the youngsters in his country in the days to come or not.
