South Africa A v Sri Lanka A - Sri Lanka A tour of South Africa - 1st unofficial Test - Day 3 - Live Score and Update
Sri Lanka A 170 & 247 (62.4 ov) v South Africa A 425/6d - South Africa A won by an innings and 8 runs
In the first unofficial Test between hosts South Africa A and tourists Sri Lanka A, the home side won the four-day match on the third day by an innings and eight runs, at Kingsmead, Durban, on Monday, July 02.
After dominating the three days of play, a win for South Africa was inevitable and they had the Lankans right where they wanted.
On the other hand, a draw was the only hope for Sri Lanka to save face under difficult times, however, after being pulverised for a meagre tally of 170 runs and then having got hammered for a massive score of 425 runs by the South Africans, the Sri Lankans did not have many options left with them.
South Africa took a brave gamble as they declared their innings and did not choose to bat on the third day, giving their guests two days to bat their way out of trouble.
Lankans could have stayed on and neutralized the South African bowling attack in order to avoid an imminent defeat, but they lacked composure needed to come out of situations like the one they were caught in.
The opening pair of skipper FDM Karunaratne and MDK Perera could muster only 17 runs, before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 made inroads by nabbing the wicket of the Sri Lankan skipper, who faltered after smashing an innings of 12 runs off 13deliveries.
On the next delivery, the Afrikaans struck again and sent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LPC-Silva-c1848 back home without scoring a run.
With two batsmen gone for 17 runs on the tally, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 were falling in the abyss of defeat and needed to salvage something out of the match.
Wicketkeeper/batsman, JK Silva, was then the next to hit the showers, as he fell after scoring an innings of six runs, leaving his team standing on a tally of 33.
Perera and ARS Silva then forged an astounding partnership together, and almost took their side in the safe zone, but with 116 runs on the board, it was time for South Africa to make a comeback as they nabbed the wicket of Perera, who fell after belting an innings of 48 runs.
Meanwhile, ARS Silva smashed a 50 and SC Serasinghe hammered a 45-run knock, as the rest of the batting line-up faltered without putting much of a fight.
Consequently, Sri Lanka could bolster 247 runs in 62.4 overs, as they lost the match.
