In the fourth match of the ongoing tri-series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 A, Sri Lanka in their clash against South Africa, amassed a daunting total of 245 runs for the loss of seven wickets, at Harare Sports Club, on July 17, 2012.
After winning the toss, Sri Lankan skipper, FDM Karunaratne, chose to bat first as he wanted his team to post a mammoth total on the board, to give the mighty South Africans a tough time.
From Sri Lanka, Karunaratne and MDUS Jayasundera opened the innings and prospered against the Afrikaans as the batsmen hammered the bowlers and posted 87 runs before the partnership ended on the demise of Karunaratne, who was caught on a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Morris-c49501 after scoring 39 runs.
Then with 97 runs on the board, the batting side lost its second wicket when number-three batsman, PBB Rajapaksa, fell after hitting six runs.
Jayasundera and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CK-Kapugedera-c1269 then forged a nerve-racking partnership by hammering the bowlers all around the park, as they aimed to take their side towards a strong total.
The batsmen left the bowlers without any clues as they failed to halt the onslaught until the batsmen took the score to 145, as Kapugedera was removed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Ontong-c1704, after smashing an innings of 37 runs.
This actually fractured the batting side as they lost their fourth wicket with 158 runs on the board, as Jayasundera, who seemed well set, fell after bolstering an innings of 55 runs, after facing 80 deliveries.
It was then a total mayhem as the batting side started losing just too many wickets, however, with all this going on, MDK Perera, steadfast and held his side of the end by smacking a fabulous knock of 52 runs off 67 deliveries to play an important role in helping his side amass a fighting total of 245 runs on the board.
