South Africa Age Group Championships: Day four – Swimming news
Day four of the South Africa Age Group Swimming Championships ended with the dynamic events of the 50m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 50m back-stroke and the 1500m freestyle for the Men’s and Women’s events in their respective age group categories.
In the Men’s 50m freestyle, the fastest swimmer of the preliminary rounds, 17-year-old Luke Pendock again dominated the swim for the final event in an improved time of 23.25 seconds against his 23.61 seconds in the heats. Brett Walsh followed him for the
silver medal on the podium with his improved timing of 23.59 seconds, while the podium completed with the presence of Chris Vd Sande, who touched the wall for the third spot in 23.67 seconds. The remaining participants were not far away, as all of them clocked
a time less than 24.789 seconds.
In the Women’s corner, Jo-Mar Van Zyl produced a wonderful swim in a time of 27.13 seconds for her gold medal in the same event. Suanne DE Wet and Robyn Sher followed her for the second and third spots in a time of 27.34 and 27.49 seconds, respectively.
The next event of the day was the Men’s 200m Individual Medley, where 17-year-old Dylan Bosch claimed the gold medal in a time of 2:04.95 minutes, ahead of Michael Meyer and Mar Husselman, who touched the wall second and third in a time of 2:06.29 and 2:07.90
minutes, respectively.
Ki Mc Lauchlan won the gold medal in the Women’s 200m IM in a time of 2:23.12 minutes, which was comfortably ahead of Oneida Cooper and Car Terblanche, who touched the wall in a time of 2:24.16 and 2:24.76 minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s 50m back-stroke final, 17-year-old Chris Vd Sande earned his way to the gold medal in an astonishing time of 26.91 seconds and was followed by Ni DE Villiers and Mar Langeveldt, who secured the silver and bronze medal in a time of 27.43 and
27.50 seconds,  respectively.
Mich Pistorius won the equivalent medal in the Women’s corner with a swim of 30.81 seconds. She touched the wall with a very slight lead of 0.01 seconds, ahead of second finisher, Natasha DE Vos, who clocked a time of 30.82 seconds while Amy Peens secured
the bronze medal in a time of 31.07 seconds.
The last event of the day was the Men’s 1500m freestyle for the age group of 15 to 18-years-old, where Myles Brown conquered the gold medal in a time of 15:35.93 minutes, ahead of Nikolaos Manousakis and Danie Marais, who touched the wall in a time of 16:14.89
and 16:14.88 minutes, respectively.
