http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Domestic Cricket Update – November 17th, 2011
At stumps on day one of a fixture of CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge, Eastern Provinces (EP) scored 289 runs for the loss of merely two wickets and KwaZulu-Natal Inland (KZI) at the City Oval, Pietermaritzburg, on November 17, 2011.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Smith-c76205 won the toss for EP and decided to bat first on a flat batting deck. The decision proved to be the right one as the bowlers of KZI failed to make an impression on the batsmen of EP.
EP posted a big total at the end of the day and look to carry on with the same momentum on day two. Star of the show for EP was the opening batsman, David White, who scored a magnificent hundred to help his team’s cause and was unlucky
to be run out on 118 runs, which came off only 172 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and a couple of massive sixes.
Michael Prince and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warren-Eldrid-Bell-c96228 also scored valiant half centuries; whereas, the later was still at the crease unbeaten when the play was called off by the umpires.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tabraiz-Shamsi-c92565 was the only successful bowler of KZI.
In another match of the same tournament, Free State dominated the first day’s play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 as they posted a massive total of 429 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets at stumps at the Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek.
Free State won the toss and had no hesitancy in batting first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Biljon took the best possible advantage of the batting conditions, the former scored a double hundred, whereas the later scored a big ton.
Second, who is also the wicketkeeper of Free State, scored 209 runs off only 280 balls, in which he struck 24 boundaries and a couple of massive hits out of the park. Skipper, van Biljon was dismissed after scoring 128 runs, which came
at a blistering strike-rate of 85.90 runs per 100 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bernard-Martinus-Scholtz-c47802 was the pick of the bowlers for Namibia as he grabbed three vital wickets after giving away 71 runs in his 17 overs.
It remains to be seen that Namibia would be able to match the brilliance of Free State, when their turn to bat comes.
