On Friday, February 10, 2012 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 amassed 358 runs for the loss of only six wickets against Cape Cobras in the ongoing SuperSport series, seeking an upper hand in the four-day match at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
Earlier, after ending the first day of play by amassing 228 runs for the loss of four wickets, Lions gave an astounding batting performance on the second day by preventing the bowlers from penetrating their batting line-up as they loshttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472 only two wickets in the day.
T Bavuma and TL Tsolekile resumed the batting from their side as the duo once again exhibited tremendous form against the bowlers.
Tsolekile, who had scored just six runs a day earlier, was the first causality of the day as he lost his wicket after playing an innings of 20 runs. At the time of his demise, the side had posted 255 runs on the board.
However, this was not the end of miseries for Cape Cobras, as the arrival of Cliffe Deacon on the crease triggered another strong batting resistance against a bowling attack which was by now getting impatient and desperate.
The two batsmen made life extremely difficult for the fielding side as they launched a barrage of stupendous shots all around the park, leaving Cobras in tatters.
However, where the bowlers failed to take wickets, they succeeded in slowing down the run rate as the batsmen opted to play tentative shots in the later part of the match which actually benefitted the fielding side, as at one point it seemed as if Lions were going to post something around 400-500 runs on the board.
Lions made a terrible choice as they should have continued to play aggressively in a bid to hammer a tantalizing total at the end of their first innings.
Nonetheless, the lethal batting partnership was finally broken when with 317 runs on the board; Bavuma was dismissed for 64 runs.
Later, Lions posted 358 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets at stumps on the second day with Deacon on 40 and Chris Morris on 29 runs.
