Knights 340 & 110/5 (38.0 ov) v Dolphins 240 - Knights lead by 210 runs with 5 wickets remaining
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dolphins-c781 on the third day of the four-day match in the ongoing SuperSport Series at Chevrolet Park, Bloemfontein on Thursday, December 29, 2011.
After ending the second day of the game by posting 42 runs for the loss of two wickets, Dolphins resumed play on the third day in a bid to post a challenging first innings total against a tally of 340 runs by Knights.
Number-three batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vaughn-van-Jaarsveld-c2749 came out to bat for their side to enhance their overnight tallies of 16 and 13 runs.
The batsmen took charge right from the word go as they smacked the bowlers all around the park, making mincemeat of the opposition.
They hammered 45 runs in the third-wicket partnership, as they seemed destined to dominate Knights and place their team in a comfortable position.
However, with 54 runs on the board, Jaarsveld lost his wicket after playing a well tamed innings of 19 runs.
After the demise of this wicket, Dolphins suffered a batting collapse and lost six wickets by the time they had managed to post 99 runs on the board.
While wickets were crumbling like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Berg-c1457, Smit kept his nerve and played superbly to restrict the opposition from nabbing his wicket.
The arrival of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kyle-Abbott-c1823 on the crease brought good fortunes for Smit as he was provided enough support to allow him to hammer the Knights bowlers all around the park without fear.
The batsman smashed 80 runs in the 8th wicket-partnership, which later helped the side amass 240 runs on the board at the end of their first innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbott-c41507, lost his wicket after playing an innings of 38 runs, while Smit found his way back to the pavilion after smashing a belligerent innings of 95 runs.
From Knights, pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Quinton-Friend-c82888 was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed five wickets to restrict the batting side from posting a huge tally on the board.
Coming out to bat in their second innings, Knights after suffering the loss of their first wicket without a run on the board, managed to avert a batting meltdown and amassed 110 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets at stumps.
