http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 trail by 22 runs with 5 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
On Friday, December 16, 2011 Titans amassed 416 runs at stumps in response to the first innings tally of 438 by Knights and now trail by 22 runs with five wickets in hand at Chevrolet Park, Bloemfontein.
Titans started the second day’s play after ending their first day by posting only three runs as they got to face only an over on Thursday.
With Knights’ massive tally ahead of them, Titans knew that they needed to give a batting performance of a life time to evade a defeat in the four-day game.
However, they lost their first wicket with only five runs on the board, when opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PL-Harris-c2193, fell after scoring only four runs.
With 29 runs on the board, Titans lost their second wicket, when opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tumelo-Mphunzi-Bodibe-c94470, perished after playing an unimpressive innings of 11 runs off 20 deliveries.
With both openers back in the pavilion, middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944 had a huge responsibility on their shoulders to get their side out of the difficult situation.
However, before the duo could manage to craft a much needed partnership, Jaarsveld was removed after making only five runs. At the time of this wicket, Titans had posted only 44 runs on the board.
With three wickets down before scoring a ton, Titans were certainly in trouble and needed someone in their batting line-up to bat their way back in the game and neutralize the bowling offensive, that was running wild at that moment in time.
Kuhn, then hammered a 100-run partnership alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Farhaan-Behardien-c1435, as the batsmen ripped apart the bowling attack and reduced the opposition to rubble.
Finally in the 32nd over, Knights saw the back of Kuhn, who was dismissed after smashing an innings of 75 runs.
However, his demise brought hard-hitting batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427, on the crease, who crafted another destructive partnership with Behardien and incinerated the bowling attack.
The batsmen amassed 272 runs in the 5th wicket-partnership, taking the tally to 416 runs before Plessis lost his wicket after playing a phenomenal innings of 153 runs off 216 deliveries.
Meanwhile, at stumps, Behardien was unbeaten with 140 runs to his name, as the side look well set to post a huge total on the third day of the game.
