Titans 273/5 (75.0 overs) v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 - Titans position solid on close of play
Splendid batting from the middle-order batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427, helped Titans reach a solid position on day one of the SuperSport Series match being played at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.
Bad light brought an early closure to the day; at stumps Titans had scored 273 runs for the loss of five wickets with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613 at the centre. Henry was four runs short of a half-century while Morkel had five runs to his name when the
on-field umpires, MW Brown and EC Hendrikse, called it a day.
Earlier in the day, Titans skipper Jaarsveld won the toss and after inspecting the pitch decided to bat first.
The hosts did not get-off to the start that they would have hoped for, as the wicket-keeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HG-Kuhn-c1548, found his way back to the dressing room with just 24 runs on the board.
Kuhn, who was bough down for runs by Lions new ball bowlers, and he tried to cut loose by taking the aerial route of Wycliffe Deacon’s bowling. However, the ploy did not work for him as the Lions had placed a fielder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Temba-Bavuma-c92965, for the shot. He succumbed
to good captaincy.
Jaarsveld moved himself up the order and joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tumelo-Mphunzi-Bodibe-c94470 in the middle. The skipper adopted an aggressive approach from the word go and forced the oppositions bowler to alter their line and length.
However, same was not the case with Bodibe (25). The opening batsman was put out of his misery by Chris Morris. The medium-pacer, who lost his rhythm during the middle-phase of the innings, but showed the door to Bodibe on the final deliver of the 15th
over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eddie-Leie-c55031’s first victim of the match after scoring 25 runs.
E Leie struck again 33 runs later and this time it was Jaarsveld (80) who had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
The match was evenly poised with Titans at 161 for the loss of four wickets. However, the fourth wicket stand of 107 runs between Plessis (80) and Henry turned the match in Titans favour.
Lions bounced back late in the day by taking Plessis’ wicket. The batsman was furious with himself after he got out with just two overs left in the play. Leie was once again in the wickets column and finished the day with figures of 3 for 76 from 19 overs.
