In the ongoing SuperSport series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, Dolphins require another 321 runs to win their four-day game against Warriors, after they amassed 121 runs in their second innings on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
Warriors, after finishing the second day of play by posting 142 runs for the loss of two wickets in their second innings, resumed their batting on the third day, aiming to post a mammoth tally against Dolphins.
With JT Smuts and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-W-Jacobs-c41346 on the crease, the side had a fancy chance of incinerating the opposition as both batsmen had the ability to rip through the mightiest bowling attacks on a given day.
Smuts, who had failed to give a commendable show in the first innings, looked all set for redemption as he took a charge at the bowlers, right from the word go.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacobs-c65213 also exhibited impressive touch with the bat as he played every bowler on merit, without taking too many chances.
The duo, turned out to be a nightmare for the Dolphins, who failed to subdue the batsmen early in the day and then had to pay the cost dearly as the batsmen settled in to unleash terror on the bowlers.
The two batsmen hammered 110 runs in the third-wicket partnership, leaving the bowling attack in ruins.
Dolphins, needed to break the partnership in order to survive in the game as the sequence of events was heading in favour of the batting side with the two batsmen on the crease.
Finally in the 60th over, Jacobs was dismissed after bolstering a sensational knock of 51 runs off 114 deliveries.
