South Africa Rugby Union showcases futuristic Rugby World Cup 2011 jersey - Rugby News
South Africa Rugby Union has revealed its new hi-tech Rugby World Cup jersey’s on June 29 at a press conference.
The defending champions will wear the dark green and golden stripped jerseys in the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2011, which is kicking off this year in September at New Zealand. The jersey has been designed keeping in mind the countries World Cup history and
has been described as very attractive by South African Rugby Union, CEO Jurie Roux.
The SARU chief executive also told the media during the jersey’s unveiling ceremony that the new kit had been created by some of the top designers in the business. He hoped that the new look would attract more fans to support the team this year He further
said that the best available fabric and technology had been used to prepare the Springboks shirts.
Roux claimed that, “The Springboks were extensively involved in the design of the jersey and in its testing and assessment of its epical features and they were more than happy with the outcome. A rugby jersey is one of the key tools of a player’s trade and
having one that works to give them that fractional advantage on the field is another way of maximising their ability to perform.”
Roux further said that jersey endorses golden stripes round the neck and sleeves which adds to its beauty. He also claimed that fabric used gave the jersey a silky touch which would help the players to elevate their attack while helping them slip past defenders.
The Canterbury chief executive, Chris Stephenson, also spoke at the occasion and said that the new jersey is one of the best products of the year. He said that he felt privileged to be able to work with SARU in the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. He added that,
“The new kit is our most sophisticated to date and as always, we have relished the challenge to release a tougher yet lighter jersey that will be showcased at this year’s Rugby World Cup.”
The Springboks’ supporters have shown mixed response over the launching of new kit. However the SARU chief executive is convinced that the new design is a hit.
