South Africa Under-19s v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012 – (19th Match - Group D) – Match Update
Corné Dry’s 4-wicket haul played a crucial role in the South African Under-19s’ 4-wicket victory over the Sri Lanka Under-19s, during their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 match today on August 15, at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-John-Parnell-Burge-c81760 Oval in Brisbane.
Having won the toss and elected to field first, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s Dry (8-2-16-4), aided by Solo Nqweni (9.4-0-51-2) and Calvin Savage (6-0-30-2), did not allow the Sri Lankan batsmen to settle in at the crease, restricting them to a paltry total of 150.
Openers Sebastian Perera (0) and Pabasara Waduge (3) were both dismissed early in the innings after meagre contributions, and while wicketkeeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella (12) and Angelo Jayasinghe (10) managed to get starts, they were not able to convert them into substantial scores.
The mediocre performances continued, and by the 19th over, the Sri Lanka U-19s were at 73 for 8. Pulina Tharanga’s unbeaten 50 gave the team the push they needed to get the team total up to triple-digits, and his 10th-wicket 52-run stand with Amila Aponso (11) enabled the Sri Lanka U-19s to post a final score of 150, all out, by the 38th over.
South Africa, however, breezed through the chase, reaching 153 by the 33rd over of their innings, despite the efforts of Tharindu Kaushal (10-1-28-3) and skipper Sanitha de Mel (7-0-32-2).
Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chad-Bowes-c49511 top-scored for his side with 46, going on to establish a 3rd-wicket 80-run partnership with Theunis de Bruyn (42).
Their efforts enabled the South Africa U-19s to reach 101 by the 19th over, after which both Bowes and de Bruyn were sent packing by Kaushal. Murray Coetzee (19*) and Diego Rosier (13) were up next, and set up a 24-run partnership which got the team total up to 126.
Rosier was dismissed, lbw, by Kaushal, but Coetzee soldiered on, establishing a 20-run 6th-wicket stand with Savage (16). By the time Savage was sent back to the pavilion by de Mel in the 33rd over, South Africa had reached 146, and aided by Prenelan Subrayen (3*), Coetzee guided the team to 153 at the expense of 6 wickets, with 102 deliveries still remaining.
