England Women 297/3 (50 /50 ov); South Africa Women 235 (46.5/50 ov) - England Women won by 62 runs
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 Women beat the hosts, South Africa Women, by 62 runs in the first One-Day International (ODI) of three match series on Friday, October 21, 2011, at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
Toss went http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cri-zelda-Brits-c51770, forced the opposition to bat first, in hopes of making the most of the seaming track.
It was the Proteas bowlers who made the early inroads by trapping the English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charlotte-Marie-Edwards-c50507, in front of the stumps on the last ball of first over. Shabnim Ismail produced a gem of a delivery to see the back of the
English skipper.
Edwards' opening partner, Danni Wyatt (21), failed to convert the good start into something big. The South African skipper made the right call by introducing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marizanne-Kapp-c74483 into the attack as it fetched Wyatt’s wicket.
Wicket-keeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trisha-Chetty-c94414 combined their forces to
bring an end to Taylor’s innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arran-Brindle-c45514 came out to bat at number five and along with Greenway took the game back at the Proteas. Both batters dovetailed perfectly as they relinquished the South African Women bowling attack.
Brindle and Greenway relied heavily on singles and doubles early in their innings and once they got their eyes in they went berserk and struck a boundary in every over. South Africans bowlers had no answer to the onslaught from
England’s star batters.
Greenway (125) was the aggressive partner until the 40th over; however, Brindle (107) matched her skills in last ten overs as they both got to their centuries and remained unbeaten till the end of English innings propelling
their side to a gigantic total of 297.
South Africans stabilized their innings after an early loss. The first wicket fell at a score of 12 when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alison-Lucille-Hodgkinson-c43649
made English bowlers work hard. The two batters amassed 143 runs from 28.2 overs.
Once England got the break through, the South African batting order started to crumble and wickets fell one after the other. The last eight batsmen could only muster 80 runs as the Proteas got bowled out for 235 in 46.5, losing
the match by 62 runs.
Greenway was declared the Player of the Match for her sizzling innings of 125.
The South African women will look to bounce back in the second outing of the series which will be played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Sunday, October 23.
