South African Women clinched the third unofficial T20I against England Academy Women to secure a 2-1 series victory, at the Senwes Park, Potchefstroon, on April 22, 2012.
Both sides grabbed a win each from the opening two clashes, the Proteas winning the first game by a handsome 9-wicket margin, before the English contingent fought back strongly and claimed a convincing victory, by 8 wickets, in the 2nd T20.
The decider however, saw the home team again proving their mettle - inflicting defeat by 44 runs and consequently lifting the trophy. The star performer was Chloe Tyron, who contributed a blistering 40 off just 23 balls, and returned with impressive match figures of 4-0-23-2.
After being sent into bat, the South African Women team’s opening pairing of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trisha-Chetty-c94414 began strongly, notching up 67 in the first seven overs. Fritz went on to anchor the innings with a sublime half-century, getting significant support from her fellow team members.
Following the departure of Chetty off Beth MacGregor, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Susanna-Maria-Benade-c92039 (22) joined in to partner Fritz, and while the run-rate took a declining trend, Tryon blitz ensured that her side finished as powerfully as they had started.
Her 40, coupled with an unbeaten 53 by the opener, propelled the local side to post an above par 178, giving their bowlers plenty of leverage
On the contrary, the tourists’ run chase began slowly with Beth MacGregor (11) falling in the third over. Her dismissal was followed by a 35-run stand for the second-wicket between Alice MacLeod and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamsin-Tilley-Beaumont-c92692, after which Tryon’s fiery spell put the brakes on the scoring rate.
The left-armer’s double strike, which included the wicket of Beaumont and Jodie Dibble left the Poms at a troublesome 53 for 4,  a situation the visitors never really recovered from, despite valiant efforts from Natalie Sciver ( 32), and Amy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 ( 18).
Both added 55 for the fifth wicket but the asking rate kept on climbing, and their departures handed an easy win for the home side.
Player of the match accolade went to Tryon for another excellent outing in the series.
