South Africa and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 are unlikely to use the Umpire Decision Review System in the upcoming series between the two cricketing giants. It has been decided between the two teams that they are not going to use the UDRS in South Africa.
India will be touring South Africa for a 3 Test, one T20 International (T20i) and 5 One Day International (ODI) series. The first Test kick starts at Centurion on December 16.
India is against the referral system and this is the only reason that seems to negate the importance of using the UDRS in the upcoming tour of South Africa.
"[We] will definitely not be using it. India are not keen to use it", the CSA official said.
However, India has only used the referral system, once, since the system has been put into effect. Previously, the Asian giants agreed to use the system back in 2008 on the Sri Lankan tour. In the series against Sri Lanka, the review system posed a nightmare
to India as they were unsuccessful with it, most of the times.
India struggled to make the most out of their reviews as they were only successful with one of their challenges. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 benefited the most with their referrals as they successfully challenged 11 decisions.
The review system hasn’t been used in India, yet as they don’t favour the system. India was also against using the system in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand.
Furthermore, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the Indian captain was reluctant to use the UDRS against New Zealand. He laid stress on improved standard of on-field umpiring instead of using the referral system.
BCCI, the World’s strongest cricket board and team India have firmly contradicted the use of the system. On the other hand, ICC has approved the UDRS during the ICC World Cup, 2011 in the Subcontinent.
Apart from India, the UDRS system has been used in top cricketing countries like South Africa, England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. All the top players and captains are in favour of using the system. In their opinion, the system can negate the
errors executed by the on-field umpires. In the process, the umpires do get a chance to redeem themselves during the match.
