South Africa announce 2012-13 summer schedule, Boxing Day Test replaced with a T20 – Cricket News Update
Cricket South Africa, on Tuesday announced its schedule for the 2012-13 home summer, which will see the Proteas hosting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in a full series starting late December. A major change in the schedule is that the traditional Boxing Day Test
has been replaced with a T20 International against New Zealand.
South Africa will kick start their 2012-13 home season a week before Christmas with a three-match T20 series against New Zealand, which will be followed by two Tests and three One Day Internationals against the Kiwis. The third T20 International between
New Zealand and South Africa will be played on December 26, the Boxing Day, in Port Elizabeth, while the Test series will commence on January 2, 2013, with the series opener played in Cape Town.
Cricket South Africa’s acting chief, Jacques Faul, confirmed that the regular Boxing Day Test has been replaced with a T20 match against the Black Caps.
"We have made one other important change this season with the New Zealand tour starting with three Twenty20 International matches to be played over the Christmas period, instead of the normal Test match," Jacques Faul told the media
reporters today.
The three-ODI series between the two outfits will be played between January 19 to 25. The Proteas will then host Pakistan cricket team in a full series, starting from February 1, 2013. The home series against the Men in Green will
comprise of three Tests, two T20 Internationals and five One Day Internationals.
CSA's acting chief hoped it would be a ‘bumper summer’ for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 cricket fans.
"It should be another bumper summer for our fans, [with] five Test matches, eight ODIs and five Twenty20s at home,” said Jacques Faul.
"This will allow us to continue our policy of rotating limited-overs fixtures among all our affiliates... These two provinces (East London and Paarl) are very strong growth areas for the game, [and help] fulfil our mandate of making
cricket a truly national sport," he further added.
After remaining off the international roster for quite some time, East London and Paarl hosted two ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 earlier this year and attracted more than 25,000 spectators. Faul hoped the turnout would be much more next
year.
