South Africa announce squad Hong Kong Sixes - Cricket News Update
Cricket South Africa has named a seven-man squad for the annual Hong Sixes competition which will take place at the Kowloon Cricket Club next month.
Andrew Hudson, the Proteas selection member said that the squad has been based purely on the names provided by each domestic outfit. Under the structure; every franchise has a nominee in the team which possesses players unknown to international cricket fans.
However, Hudson believes the youngsters who will represent in the tournament are potential stars of the future.
“We have followed the standard procedure of getting each franchise to nominate a player so that we do not disadvantage franchises from their domestic competition requirements,” commented CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.
“This is a very important tournament for players who have been identified as having the potential to represent the Proteas,” he added.
The team possess some good blend of upcoming youngsters which includes Mangaliso Mosehle, who is the former U-19 cricketer of the year, along with the current Proteas amateur one-day player of the year, Mathew Hulett.
The tournament which starts from 28 will be another spectacle with host of international stars coming to perform at this annual event. Earlier ,the All-Star team for the competition had been confirmed which includes a no of International performers from
different cricketing nations.
The All- Star team has a star studded line –up comprising of two of the world’s explosive sub-continent players, Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi. Also in the side will be Australian pacer, Shuan Tait and Netherland’s, Ryan ten Doeschate.
One of South African’s very own, Herschelle Gibbs will also feature for the All-Star and it would be interesting to see whether he gets a chance to face his native country.
Hudson however is confident in his youthful contingent and optimistic of their chances of returning home triumphantly.
“…We are confident this squad can bring home some prestigious silverware.”
