South Africa announces to host upcoming World Golf Championship next year – Golf News
South Africa has announced that they will be hosting the upcoming World Golf Championship event next year and having a lucrative prize money. The in-charge of the Sunshine Tour said in his statement that the event will carry total prize-money of US$10 million.
This event will attract all the top ranked golfers of the world. This is also going to go in the history books of golf, as it will be the highest prize-money so far offered in a four-day championship.
With this prize-money, all the top players will be surely looking forward to winning this championship. There are not much tournaments played in this region, but this is going to be an exciting one for the foreign players.
This year’s Masters Champion, Charl Schwartzel, and the veteran Ernie Els are also excited that the top ranked players will be featuring in their home country. This shows that the there is improvement in the region of South Africa.
Golf is gaining more and more popularity throughout the world. If these events occur, more and more players will be attracted to this sport.
The Chief Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, Gareth Tindall, said, “The five-year deal was sealed after meetings with the U.S. PGA Tour and the International Federation of PGA Tours in Augusta, Georgia last week during Masters.”
This will be the second World Golf Championship event which will be played outside United States. It was previously held in China. This will also be a boost for South African golf as they will be competing against the big giants of rankings.
Tindall also said that the date is yet to be finalised of this tournament. They will have to make sure that there is no clash between the PGA Tour events. Probably, this will take place late in December next year. The venue will also be disclosed once there
is another meeting between Tindall and the PGA Tour organisers.
The South African golfers have already shown their interest and will be ready for this exciting tournament next year. It will be one of the biggest paid tournaments in history of golf.
