South Africa becomes the proud host of WGC tournament
The exciting new tournament of the World Golf Championships is scheduled to be held in South Africa on November 28 to December 1, 2013.
The International Federation of PGA Tour announced the news on Friday, February 10. According to the details, the event will be dubbed the Tournament of Hope.
It is being said that the tournament will offer a big prize. The selected venue is in South Africa, but the selection of the course is yet to be revealed by the officials.
"In addition to the Tournament of Hope, the promoters will organise other awareness functions in South Africa and around the world during the week of the tournament," the International Federation of PGA Tours said.
The reason for the tournament to be the richest is its $8.5 million purse. Another appealing factor attached to the event is that it will create awareness of HIV/AIDS, helping minimise the number of increasing patients.
The initial dates are scheduled in a way that the final day of the tournament will be on World AIDS Day.
Similarly, from 2013 onwards, this tournament will be staged on the same dates every year. So the awareness drive will go on as usual, benefiting the world.
If the dates are not available, the schedules may conflict with the Chevron World Challenge and the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Officials are trying their best to set dates effectively, so that it will not harm any other tournament.
Currently, there are four tournaments under the umbrella of World Golf Championships. It was 1999 when these tournaments were added to the golf calendar.
Now from 2012, the Accenture Match Play Championship, the Cadillac Championship, the Bridgestone Invitational, the HSBC Champions and the Tournament of Hope are the five events to be played every year.
Three are played in the US, one in China and the newly added tournament is scheduled to be played in South Africa.
The four mega events have welcomed leading golf players from the world. Now adding one more tournament will support golf expansion.
The current contract is with the WGC and will last for five years. It can be expanded if needed. The first episode is in 2013 and all the top-ranked players will play at this mega prize tournament.
