The mighty South Africans have white-washed the fighting Zimbabweans in the recent T20 series by a margin of 2-0. Bowling performances have made the difference between the two teams. Proteas have banked on a couple of good bowling performances.
It’s important to look at their most wanted bowling resources ahead of the upcoming One Day International series.
Wayne Parnell
He is a quality left-arm fast bowler. Mainly, he can slant a cricket ball, across the right hander, and if given the conditions he can bring it back as well. In addition, his ability to swing the ball is backed up by extra pace.
In the current South African attack, he is their best death bowler as he has the ability to ball Yorkers and slower balls at will. Add to this, he can deliver all his toys with a quick arm bowling action that can be difficult for late order batsman to face
in the later part of the innings.
He was picked up to play for South Africa at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, he took 6/8 and scored a brilliant 57 to seal the man-of-the-match award.
Later he made his debut in a sedate fashion against the Australians as he gathered match figures of 1/52 in his quota of ten overs. Although, Parnell’s potential was judged.
Furthermore, he vindicated his selection by devastating the strong Australian batting line-up in only his 2nd One day match, taking match figures of 4/25 at Centurion. As a result, his performance earned him the man-of-the-match award.
So far he has been an integral part of South Africa’s ODI plan. Overall, in ODIs, he has featured in 11 matches, scalping 25 wickets at an average of 25 with a best of 5/48.
In the recently concluded T20 series against Zimbabwe, Parnell has performed in bits and pieces. Add to this, in the first match of the series the left-armed bowler was economical when he just gave 29 runs in four overs, taking two wickets. His economical
display of fast bowling restricted the opposition to a fighting total of 168 runs under the conditions, which in the end was successfully achieved by his team.
Moreover, he looked off the boil in the 2nd T20 as he went all around the park wicket-less in his four overs, conceding 41 runs.
Wayne will be looking forward to the ODI series against the Zimbabweans as he has the ability to get early breakthroughs for his team.
Johan Botha
Currently, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the limited over version of the game. He has become one of the premier off-spinners going around in the cricketing fraternity.
His figures might not reveal his true potential as a bowler as he has been in and out of the team due to ban by ICC, pertaining doubt on his actions. Since then he remodeled his action, and now, he is an integral part of the Proteas ODI and T20 squad.
As an off-spinner, Botha can spin the ball and can surprise the batsmen of the World with his sharp Doosra. His spin bowling skills are backed up by a shrewd bowling brain as he sets up the batsmen.
Overall, the off-spin bowler has played 57 matches, taking 52 wickets at an average of 41 with a best of 4/19. His economy rate of 4.6 in modern cricket shows his control over his spin and his bowling accuracy.
In South Africa’s 2-0 series victory against Zimbabwe, Botha wasn’t able to show his talent with the white cherry. The opposition batsmen milked him, and when needed, they have extracted easy boundaries from the hands of Botha. As a result, the South African
spinner has been disappointing in the T20 series, giving away 60 runs in 7 overs, taking a single wicket.
Proteas will be looking up-to their spin bowler to give them the required breakthroughs in the middle part of the innings.
