South Africa confirmed as hosts of Champions League 2012 – Cricket News Update
South Africa have been confirmed as the hosts for the 2012 edition of the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 tournament, scheduled to be held in October this year.
A meeting of the CLT20’s governing council had been held last month for the purpose of deciding upon the format and venue for this year’s edition, but had not yielded any conclusive results. However, a member of the CLT20's technical committee, Sundar Raman, recently confirmed the venue on Twitter.
“South Africa will host CLT20 this year. All other details to follow soon.”
The venues are likely to be Johannesburg, Cape Town, Centurion and Durban. This marks the second time that South Africa will be hosting the event since its inception in 2008, having previously served as the venue for the tournament in 2010.
The other two editions were held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, where the 2012 tournament was also originally scheduled to take place, before Jacques Faul, acting CEO of Cricket South Africa, confirmed to ESPNcricinfo last month that “problems with the IPL qualifiers venues for the CLT20” could result in the tournament being shifted to South Africa. Other reasons for the shift were speculated to be a five-day festival due to be held in the country, as well as the Indian monsoons.
The CLT20, the most cash-rich club-cricket event in the world which features the major domestic teams from cricketing nations, was originally meant to be launched in 2008, but was delayed owing to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
