Three Test series against India is just 16 days away and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 is facing delay on the selection of players for three important positions in the team.
Series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, comparatively a weak opponent, in UAE. Before that series
against South Africa is stuck on deciding players for three key positions in the team which are an appropriate batsman for No.6, a spin bowler and an additional fast bowler.
Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell are contesting for the position of an additional seam bowler in the squad which will make South African bowling squad quite strong with four seam bowlers.
Tsotsobe and Parnell both are left arm seam bowlers who were also part of Test squad of South African team against Pakistan played in UAE. Lonwabo Tsotsobe seems to be inching ahead of Wayne Parnell due to the fact of playing more games in UAE, played both
Twenty20s and four ODIs out of five.
On the other hand, Wayne Parnell, was able to bowl just 8.5 overs and was also unsuccessful in getting wickets. It cannot be ignored that he is returning from a six month groin injury and rehabilitation. South Africa’s assistant coach said about Parnell
that he is very talented and will definitely be selected for future assignments but right now it is not the time to select a tired Parnell.
The other important decision for South African selectors is to choose a spinner from the duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johan-Botha-c67173 and Paul Harris. Johan Botha is the first hand selection for South Africa and South Africa traditionally uses only one spinner in the Test matches
but both spinners were used at the same time in UAE and they performed very well. The conditions in the series against India will be more or less same so South Africa can have two spinners in the squad this time and if done so then Harris if destined to play
the role of second spinner.
The position of a batsman at number six in the South African squad will be contested by Ashwell Prince and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2008-09
season. Present form of Prince is also promising as he made only 80 runs in two Tests against Pakistan in UAE.
On the other hand, although Duminy have not played any Test in the recent series against Pakistan but he played very well in ODIs and was able to score 185 runs in the five matches with an average of 61.66.
