South Africa fight back after early losses - Cricket News Roundup – Part 1 – August 17, 2012
Thursday saw the third and final Test between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 get underway at Lord’s and the Poms without wasting much time, made an early charge against the visitors to grab four wickets for 54 in the first session.
The attack was lead by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705, as South Africa’s top batsmen seemed ill-equipped to counter the raging English attack.
Nonetheless, JA Rudolph (42) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 (61) initiated a rebuild phase, which was later continued by VD Philander (46) that prevented South Africa from faltering on a small total, as the visitors managed to amass 262 runs for the loss of seven wickets at stumps.
From http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, Anderson and Finn shared three wickets each.
England pacer, Steven Finn, is satisfied by the way he bowled against the mighty South Africans on the opening day of the Lord’s Test.
With the match holding great importance for the hosts, Finn gave his side a staggering start by nabbing three wickets in the first session to leave the South Africans flabbergasted.
England’s performance has come after they had a terrible week dealing with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 fiasco, but Finn insisted in an interview with Sky Sports 1 that the players were focussed on giving South Africa a tough time in the series finale.
“We're 11 guys who just want to go out and play. I maybe got a bit greedy at times which is why I went at four and over. But I'm in the team to take wickets,” said the fast bowler.
“It was going to be one of days, they batted well in the sunny periods. We knew when we needed to take our opportunities and in other times play attritional cricket. It would have been nice (to bowl South Africa out) but it is good that we stuck to our guns. No-one got away from us and when the sun is out here it's a good place to bat," he added.
In the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 by seven runs, on Thursday, at Bready Cricket Club, Magheramason, Bready.
The Dutch while batting first, hammered a total of 115 runs for the loss of six wickets, and then restricted their opposition on a total of 108 to win the match.
