De Villiers was all set to lead South Africa in a recently played series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557 was given charge of the team, which lost the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
However, de Villiers will be expecting his side to dominate the Sri Lankans, who are a very competitive opposition in the limited-over format.
The home team will also be looking forward to give a chance to a couple of youngsters, Dean Elgar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RK-Kleinveldt-c2334, who have been named in the squad for the opening two games.
According to South Africa’s convener of selectors http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Charles-Hudson-c44308, “There have been a number of batsmen showing good form in domestic cricket, and Elgar fully deserves his opportunity. He was the leading run-scorer in the One-Day Cup (567 runs) and also had the best average (81). In addition he gives us very useful bowling options as a left-arm spinner.”
He added, “Kleinveldt played an important role with the ball in helping the Cobras to win the One-Day Cup and he also has a lot of potential as a lower-order power hitter.”
The selectors have tried to find a good balance by blending youth and experience. The complete squad announced is: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842.
Probably leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir should have been also named in the squad, but other than that, the team looks perfectly balanced.
