South Africa possess the best ever batting line-up to have toured Australia, says Dean Jones – Cricket News Update

Australia’s former batsman, Dean Jones, believes that the Kangaroos’ bowling attack has immensely improved over the last 12 months but they have a massive challenge in front of them as South Africa have the best batting line-up ever to have toured the country.

The three-match Test series started on Friday at Brisbane, with the visitors proving their strength with the bat, having scored 255 runs for the loss of just two wickets at stumps on day one.

Graeme Smith and company are presently the number one ranked Test team of the world and majority of the sporting analysts believe that their bowling attack has been the key behind their success.

However, in the presence of some great players like Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Smith, who are ably supported by Alviro Petersen, JP Duminy and Jacques Rudolph, the Proteas have a wonderful batting line-up, which can cause headaches for
even the best in the business.

While speaking exclusively to Pakpassion, Jones expressed his praise for South Africa’s batsmen and said that the Baggy Greens will have to at their best if they have any chance of dismantling the visitors and to be crowned as the best Test team of the world.

“Let me tell you the South African top six is probably the best ever batting line-up to have graced our shores. I think they’ve made over 35,000 test runs with 107 test centuries their top six so we need to bowl well and field well to be able to knock them
over,” said the former cricketer.

Jones however, is confident that beating Australia will not be a walk in the park for the Rainbow Nation and the cricket fans will witness a well-fought battle. In the absence of Shane Watson, who missed the first Test because of a calf-strain, the former
cricketer has his doubts about the Kangaroos’ batting strength.

“If Australia win this series they go to number one. It’ll be a ripper of a series. Our bowling is coming along leaps and bounds – the batting still has concerns. Watson’s gone, he’s out and there are a couple of queries on other players as well,” he added.
