South Africa register a comprehensive win over Fiji in Wellington - Rugby World Cup
South Africa thrashed the Fiji side by a monstrous difference of 49-3 to clinch their second consecutive victory in Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC) on September 17 in Wellington. The Springboks scored six tries against the outclassed pacific nation side in the
ongoing global tournament.
The reigning champions were clearly the favourites for this match. However, with no Victor Matfield, Jean de Villiers and Bryan Habana in the team line-up their was a slight chance that the Flying Fijians could create an upset. The seasoned trio was missing
the game due to various injuries but the South Africans were lucky to get back Bakkies Botha in the back lines.
South Africa looked all set to dismantle the Pacific Nations side before a huge crowd in Wellington. They Boks were the first to score in the start of the game when they made a strong run into the Fijian half just after two minutes’ of play. Botha was moving
quite nicely in the beginning of the match and gave a tough time to the opponents.
Morne Steyn has committed no mistake in putting his side in front of Fiji in the 11th minute of the match with an unbelievable penalty goal. He kicked the pill into Fiji's goal posts from a remarkable distance of 60 meters. Despite some desperate
efforts, the Boks struggled to control the pace of the game and failed to do greater damage to the underdog Fiji squad in the first 30 minutes. They ended up the first half with a uneasy but ultimately large lead of 21-3.
Morne Steyn was the leading scorer for his team at the end of the first-half with 8 individual points under his belt. Gurthro Steenkamp and Jaque Fourie elevated the Boks with one try each before the interval. Meanwhile, Fiji scored only one penalty goal
in the first part of the match with the help of Seremaia Bai.
Frans Steyn enhanced the Boks lead to 26-3 with a well executed try in the early moments of the first-half and Steyn joined the party in the 63rd minute with another try for South Africa. South Africa managed to score four more tries after the
break and reached their total to 49-3. The Fijians had done nothing in the second half apart from chasing the Boks around the field.
