South Africa showed why they are the No.1 Test team in the world, says Michael Clarke – Cricket News Update
After two closely contested games at Brisbane and Adelaide, South Africa defeated Australia by a huge margin of 309 at Perth to bag the 3-match series 1-0. With the series victory, the Proteas have successfully defended their Test title as well.
Conceding that the Proteas put up a strong show, the Australian Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, praised his opponents at a press conference after the game.
“I don't want to take anything away from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. They showed why they're the No.1 Test team in the world. On the other hand I want to pay credit to the Australian boys to be able to fight it out so tough and stay strong up until this Test match. What
South Africa showed us is when they had momentum, they ran with it for as long as they possibly could and when they didn't have [it], they did everything in their power to fight their backsides off to try and grab it back,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120.
Clarke believes that the second day of the Perth Test, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 were dismissed at a lowly 163 by Steyn and men, was the turning point of the game, after which the Aussies found it hard to recover.
Despite sterling efforts from the home side in the previous two encounters, the tourists were resilient and ensured stalemates. The Aussies were only four wickets short of a win at Brisbane and just two wickets stood in their way at Adelaide.
Clarke feels once a side gains the momentum in a game, they cannot afford to lose it against quality sides like South Africa. The skipper also shared that there are many lessons his side can take from the series to assess where they stand and how they should
improve to get on the top.
The Perth Test was also Australian veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting’s last international outing. Despite many wishing for him to go out on a high, the former captain was only able to score 4 and 8 in his two innings.
