South Africa 0 Mexico 0
Mexico’s Carlos Vela has had a goal disallowed in the first half of the first match of the 2010 World Cup.
The Arsenal forward thought he had profited from an error by South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune from a corner, only to be rightly flagged offside.
Mexico have dominated, with Guillermo Franco missing two guilt edge chances, drawing an excellent close range save from Khune and heading over from a free kick.
Early on, Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena had to make a last ditch challenge to thwart Mexico’s Giovani dos Santos.
In truth the hosts have offered little, although Steven Pienaar did hit a free kick over the bar, and forward Katlego Mphela just missed connecting with a Siphiwe Tshabalala cross late in the half.
