South Africa v Pakistan - Pakistan tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 - 1st Test – Day 4 – Live Score and Update
South Africa 253 & 275/3d v Pakistan 49 & 268 (100.4 ov) - South Africa won by 211 runs
Hosts South Africa left tourists http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 bruised and battered after the end of the first Test at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, winning the match on the penultimate day by 211 runs.
After their mediocre performance in the first innings where they were bowled out for 253, the South Africans never looked back as not only did they outplay their guests in the bowling and fielding department but also left the Pakistanis l*****g their wounds
by overpowering them in their second innings.
With Pakistan getting humiliated in their first innings where they were bowled-out for only 49 runs, they were put on the back foot with shattered confidence which was evident after they failed to bowl-out the South Africans in the second innings. Pakistan
could take only three wickets as they saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 XI pile 275 runs for the loss of three wickets before they declared the innings, giving Pakistan a target of 480 runs.
With a gigantic score ahead of them, Pakistan lost four wickets for 183 at stumps on the third day with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 on 53.
It was imperative for the two batsmen to continue their partnership on Monday in order to save the match for their side.
However, today was a different game as South Africa struck with only 209 on the board when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281 was dismissed by Steyn for 56 runs to his name.
A run later, the pacer struck once again by nabbing the wicket of the Pakistani skipper, who found his way back to the pavilion after scoring 64 runs.
After this wicket, the South Africans knew the match was for their taking as the remaining batting line-up looked meagre in front of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409, who took eleven wickets in this match to earn the Player of the Match award.
"I bowled quite nicely (grins), AB's hundred, Biff's 100th Test as captain, the decision to bat on a tough track, that's what this team is about, great performance from the team. I've not been able to pick up wickets at the top in recent times but glad I
did it here. I'd like to say I've bowled better in the nets, but this is what counts,” said Steyn after the match.
