The Islanders lost a couple of wickets in the post lunch session, and at the end of the session http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 were at the crease, and the tourist were still in a good position to reach a good score in their first innings.
At the end of the first session, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 and Samaraweera batting on 27 and 17 runs respectively.
Jayawardene went back to the pavilion early, in the post lunch session. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 cleaned him up with a beauty; the ball nipped back into the right-hander after pitching on a good length to leave his stumps in tatters. The former skipper made 31 runs
with help of three boundaries and a six.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 replaced the departed Jayawardene at the crease. The Proteas were on fire after picking up the big wicket of Jayawardene, but Mathews played positive cricket and kept the scoreboard ticking.
Samaraweera, on the other end was solid, playing every ball on its merit and not letting the South Africans put any pressure on him. The duo shared a wonderful 45-run-partnership before the debutant, Marchant de Lange, got the wicket of Mathews.
Marchant de Lange took a caught of his own bowling to dismiss Mathews. He scored 30 runs, an innings which included five boundaries.
When Chandinal joined Samaraweera in the middle, the Lankans were in trouble and another collapse was on the cards. Both batsmen steadied the ships, batted responsibly and did not let http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 take the initiative.
At the conclusion of the post lunch session, the visiting side was just three-run short of the 200-mark, with Samaraweera and Chandimal batting on 40 and 26 runs respectively. The debutant, de Lange had claimed three wickets while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir and Morkel
