South Africa v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758: Proteas end day one on a high, courtesy of centuries from Jacques Kallis and Alviro Petersen

Centuries from veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 strengthen their position in the third and final match of the Test series against Sri Lanka being played at Newlands, Cape Town.
The duo scorned Sri Lanka’s bowling attack for most part of the day and laid the foundation for Proteas to score a big first innings total. The 205-run stand between Kallis and Petersen saw the host’s post 347 runs for the loss
of three wickets at close of play.
Petersen, who was rock solid throughout the day, lost his temperament and got out after scoring 109 runs. Kallis, on the other hand, remained unbeaten. When both on-field umpires called it a day, the personified all-rounder had
gashed 159 runs from 215 deliveries. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 accompanied Kallis and had 45 runs to his name.
Kallis, who became the sixth cricketer to play in 150 Test matches, witnessed a change of fortunes from the previous game played in Kingsmead, Durban where the middle-order batsmen got out without adding any runs to his tally in
both innings.
Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, had a lot to ponder at stumps, as he invited the Proteas to bat first after winning the toss. Dilshan was hoping to pounce on the seam being offered by the first day’s pitch.
Lankan new ball bowler, Thisara Perera, was on song from the start; however, same was not the case with his partner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735. The speedster went for a few runs, which prompted Dilshan to make drastic changes and introduce
Dhammika Prasad. The ploy worked for the tourist as the bowler rattled Graeme Smith’s, South African skipper, stumps in fifth over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557 came out to bat at number three but failed to make much impression. The elegant right-hander found it hard to cope with Prasad’s bowling and was trapped lbw after scoring 16 runs in 13th over.
Kallis made his way to the centre at Amla’s demise. From that point onwards it was all Kallis’ show. The 36-year-old will be hoping to continue on the same path when day resumes on Wednesday, January 4 at 08:30 GMT.
