Question:

South African English.....? Cokey pens?

Why do we South Africans call a cokey pen as such? No one else ever knows what I mean and I have to say felt-tip! Any ideas where cokey pen comes from? Is it an old brand name perhaps?

I also wonder about takkies (trainers) too. Any ideas?

  3. The correct spelling is Koki Pen. You are right, it was a local brand name.

  4. Thanks cakes and Tebidy. This was driving me nuts. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Now my mind can rest. lol.

Add: Wikipedia says it's South African English: tekkies - sneakers. (The Anglicised pronunciation takkies has become mainstream in South African English.)

This site says origin unknown: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/takkies

I've looked, but can't find the origin. Sorry.
