South African Open: Sharmila Nicollet ties for the 36th position
Sharmila Nicollet, the upcoming Indian star, finished the South African Open with a tie for the 36th place, with a score of 228.
Nicollet had a great time at the South African Open and played great golf. This tournament was important for the Indian sensation for a number of reasons. She was determined to play well and thoroughly enjoyed her stay in South Africa.
So far this year, Nicollet had not performed very well. With average performances in all her previous events, Nicollet was looking forward to the South African Women’s Open. This was a tournament that offered her a chance to improve her rankings and move
up the money list.
The first round ended with Nicollet in the 21st position. She had scored 75 points, which was a reasonable score when compared to the leading score of 69. At the end of this round, Nicollet was hopeful for a top-20 finish throughout the event.
At the 21st position, Nicollet had illustrious company. In addition to Lee-Anne Pace, the South African star, she was joined by Tandi Cuningham, the defending champion of South African Open. This must have raised her hopes for a better score and
a move up the leaderboard.
Nicollet started the second round on a promising note. She shot another 75 points. However, this score was not good enough and she slid down a position to the 22nd place.
Again, she had company at this position, seven other golfers joined her. Stacey Keating from Australia was also among the seven players.
The final round was the decisive one as the players tried to capitalize on their performance of the two previous rounds.
Nicollet also tried to better her performance and climb into the top-20. The weather, however, had other ideas. The winds rose up to 81 km/h and the event had to be halted for an hour.
Sharmila scored 78 points in this round. This was a slightly worse performance that cost her the place in the top-20. She slid further down the ladder to the 36th place where she ended the tournament.
