Question:

South African Wikipedia page a joke?

I have checked this page out and its discussion- what a load of rubbish!!! To think people rely on this drivel. I tried to correct some of the information about the early history of SA in which certain population groups are conveniently glossed over and it was deleted as "controversial". Check the discussion page? Should we all (seriously) put in an effort to clean up this page? It is not difficult to edit the pages.

What do you guys think?

Does anyone else edit wikipedia pages?

  1. It's a good idea but I think some people who may edit it would end up putting a lot of their opinions there instead of the facts.

    What do you think?

  2. I have no cooking clue how wikipedia made it as the new 'encyclopaedia'. Like when I ask questions about history or something, I really don't want a link to wiki. I'd rather use an encyclopaedia that has a hard cover and has pages.

  3. I've edittd pages about stuff from the War of 1812 (since I work for a historical site from that era and have seen many innacuracies) mine too usually get deleted by either wiki or other users.  I can't believe people use this to research stuff for school and some teacher's still allow it.  Personally, my profs have told us that if we ever reference even the smallest piece of info from wiki we're getting a 0 on our assignment automatically.

It's a sad day in time when this is what the world has come to, people relying on the word of other people with no back up of the evidence what-so-ever

  4. Now you know why Alf calls it wackypedia.

But there is an admission that it is not up to much:

"This article needs additional citations for verification.

Please help improve this article by adding reliable references. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed."

So deducting from that, one has to have reliable references, otherwise the info will be remived.

  5. nooooo

  6. I never use it cause it is all wrong info that they give out.

  7. I think it is a fabulous idea! But I would remind you that you are dealing with a lot of people who don't even know that South Africa is a country - see

so you might want to get Hennie to proof it for you. LOL

Seriously, there are a lot of dumb clucks out here so if you do it, keep them in mind. Don't want to confuse the little devils any more than they already are, now do you?

  8. Tell me this how many authors rode history by hearsay and story's told at campfire its done all over the world

    Who are you to criticizes

Were you there to tell your side

  9. This is one of the reasons why I do not like to refer to wiki. Anyone can edit and make updates and some real rubbish can be posted as facts. Just do not use it, someone else may edit what you have corrected.
