South African Women´s Open: LET returns to South Africa
South African Women’s Open is about to begin, with great expectations associated with the event by all LET fans and players.
This will be a hotly contested event with both South African and international players competing for the top slots. The tournament returns after a break of two years and this break has heightened the importance of this year’s event.
The event’s return is the result of a long collaboration between Ladies European Tour and Women’s Professional Golf Association of South Africa.
This collaboration is intended to further the game of golf in South Africa and nurture the golf talent that South Africa is so proud of.
This year, the tournament will be held in Selborne Park Golf Club. Many South African players are familiar with the course, but international players might face some difficulties. It is expected that a few practice rounds will clear up all such issues.
The entry list this year is the major attraction of the event. Fans all over the world are anxiously waiting to see the top golfers in action.
South Africa, being the host, will field a large contingent. In addition to fifteen regular LET players from South Africa, six top amateurs will also represent the nation.
The South African LET regulars include Lee-Anne Pace, Tandi Cuningham, Stacy Lee Bregman, Ashleigh Simon, Connie Chen, Morgana Robbertze, Monique Smit and Laurette Maritz.
The international line-up is no less illustrious. A number of top talented golfers from around the world will play in the tournament.
Players like Rebecca Hudson, Anne-Lise Caudal, the French player, Felicity Johnson, Gwladys Nocera, again from France and Becky Brewerton will contend for the trophy.
The defending champion is Tandi Cuningham, a South African player. She is determined to keep the trophy in South Africa this time. Indeed, this is what every South African player will try her best to do.
The format of the tournament is interesting. It will be 54-hole stroke play tournament. The total contestants will be 84. The number includes international players who will be fighting hard for the prize. The prize money is another motivation for the players.
This year the prize money is set at €260,000. Many players will be interested to bag such a hefty sum of prize money.
